200 pounds... that's about the amount i spent on my austria trip.
but this is not about that. i just finished watching 200 pounds beauty. yes, it's that korean movie, and yes i know it's a pretty old show. i missed it when it opened in singapore some years back and now since i'm relatively free (since projects and assignments have yet to kick in, though my 5-day week has) i decided to watch it online.
truth be told, i quite enjoyed the movie, despite its rather cliche ending. it might have been the appeal of the epic struggle of the main character who tried to overcome her physical flaws with plastic surgery, only to face yet another set of hurdles to establish her self identity. or it could have just been the lead actress, who is rather hot and sings rather well. or the comical side characters.
either way, at the end of movie, when i exited the cinematic realm of korean stardom into reality, when once again i became away of my surroundings, that i was sitting alone in my room on a poorly cushioned chair staring at a 12-inch laptop screen , i felt rather sad. it's like some sort of psychological withdrawal symptom. sian, i watched a movie only to make me more miserable at my present state.
anyway i was pretty drawn to the main character throughout the show. yes she's hot and she can sing well, but it's not just that. britney spears is hot (provided she has sufficiently long hair and is not in a pregnant state) and she can sing well (at least she used to). okay that's a pretty weak example. but my point is that it is actually her lack of flaws that makes her (the 200-pound beauty, not britney spears) irresitibly appealing.
while it was one of the factors that made the movie enjoyable, it is rather dangerous as well (at least for me), because i was temporarily imagining how wonderful it would to be in a relationship. but reality is not like that. everybody has flaws. it might be that BO, or that habit of burping out loud, or that paunch (which reminds me that i gotta start hitting the gym), but the bottomline is nobody is perfect and we just have tolerate the imperfections of others, even more so if you're in a relationship. it's somewhat like seeing a cute puppy and buying it. it's all cute and cuddly and stuff, but the thing is you gotta feed it, walk it, train it, and of course clean its shit so that no one steps on it. sacrifices have to be made. and there's no happily ever after. life is full of shit, like how hyde park is full of horse shit, and it's all about avoiding the shit, or if you sueh sueh kena the shit how to clean it properly so it won't leave a stain (and smell). bottomline is that it's important to discern between fiction and reality, something which up to now i'm not very good at.
oh by the way the song byul from the movie is nice.
