the big two three

so another birthday has come and gone.

this year however was a little bit different. this was the first time i spent my birthday overseas. it has its pros and cons. on the upside, i've got lots of free time on that day to do whatever i want (whereas in singapore i would probably be busy with projects/assignments). the flipside is that most of the people i know were either in singapore or at school. so i pretty much spent the whole day sleeping in my room and attending a 2-hour lecture. ah such is the irony.

alls not bad though. i went out to meet some of jc mates (hc, weihan and justin), who are in london, for dinner. in fact, after being in london for so long, this was the first time i actually met them face to face (after pangseh-ing them on the first day). whilst waiting for them to arrive, i decided to camp at KFC to avoid the slight drizzle that developed. and that was when i witnessed for the first time someone going around begging for chicken in KFC.

we went to a chinese restaurant for dinner. as usual, i am amazed by the price of steamed white rice (1.80 pounds). and as usual, the price of food in london is exorbitant.

2 pound milk tea (1 more pound for pearls)

beef giblet noodles (which i had)

but to be fair, the food was pretty good. and they even served complimentary chinese tea (thanks to the frequent patronage of hc). following that, i went to crash justin's place to plan an out-of london trip.

the following day was pretty normal. after spending 2 hours of my morning in school for lecture and returning back to hall, only to go back to school (again!) to settle some admin issues, my usual bunch of hall friends (aaron, peter, jiahui and shuhao) and i had dinner. what was not expected however was the cake after dinner. yup cake. apparently they were aware of my birthday (thanks to facebook) and got me a cake and even a personalized birthday card (albeit it looks rather gay, thanks to aaron and peter). cool stuff.

the envelope and the cover page of the card

the gay content

to be honest i was very touched by their thoughtfulness, given that we have only known each other for less than a fortnight.

many thanks to all who remembered my birthday for their birthday wishes (whether face-to-face, or by card, msn or facebook wall), and those who celebrate it with me (whether early, on the day itself, or late)!
